I have experienced with hypnosis, deep rooted and underlying emotional problems can be validated and problem areas can be repaired. With hypnosis, the hypnotherapist places the person in a trance-like state in which his focus and concentration are increased. The brain has the ability to restructure itself after training or exercise. Hypnotherapists use different techniques, such as verbal repetition and mental imaging to restructure and address problem areas. With a few sessions change is possible, you can focus on the ways you want to grow and see whether or not hypnotherapy is for you. This has the effect of greatly reducing the number of sessions required for many of the individual therapy issues.
Traditional hypnosis is perhaps the most popular form of hypnosis and the type that often comes to mind first when thinking of hypnosis. This type relies on suggestions and commands that are given to you when you’re in a hypnotic state, which can then affect your behaviour, thoughts, or feelings about something. Traditional hypnosis is commonly used for self-improvement, and fun fact: it’s often the type of hypnosis used in variety shows.
Ericksonian Hypnosis – named after Milton Erickson (the father of modern hypnotherapy) – is a type of hypnosis that uses metaphors, storytelling, and indirect suggestions instead of direct suggestions or commands. The theory behind this technique is that you are less likely to resist indirect suggestions, which can help you absorb and internalise them better. It relies greatly on your unconscious mind and offers a more organic approach to suggesting change. This type of hypnosis is particularly useful for those who are sceptical of traditional hypnosis.
Self-hypnosis involves becoming highly focused and absorbed in the experience while giving yourself positive suggestions about ways to reach your goals. Self-hypnosis is an individual practice, unlike when you are working with a therapist. It can be a most empowering practice as you learn to have better control of your thoughts and reactions while enjoying the physical and emotional benefits of the relaxation that is typical of self-hypnosis techniques.
